May 2019 TBR + Making Changes

Spread the love

*Well hello May! I am so excited about my May 2019 TBR! I’m making some huge (to me) changes in my reading life and I’m so pumped about them! Can you tell?? Read on to see what I’m planning to read this month and which book releases I’m looking forward to the most.

My May 2019 TBR is here! Find out how I'm changing my TBR and putting less pressure on myself to read more. And find out my most anticipated releases!

The new and improved May 2019 TBR.

This month I’m making some big changes in my reading life. Are you a TBR maker? What about a TBR follower? I have loved making a TBR in the past. It’s fun to look at all the books I have to read and decide which ones I want to read next. One thing I learned about my TBR last month is that it can be a good thing and it can also be a really bad thing.

I always followed my TBR. Like, to the letter. If it wasn’t on there I couldn’t read it that month. Having a TBR always makes me feel like I have to finish every book on the list. I pressure myself to read faster if it looks like I am going to run out of time. This just doesn’t work for me. Like most readers, I always read the books I’m most excited about first. So it shouldn’t surprise me that I ran out of excitement for the rest of my TBR by the middle of the month.

Let me tell you, this does not make the reading life very fun. I felt like I had to force myself to read, which is something I’ve never had to do before. Reading shouldn’t be about deadlines and books you HAVE to read. Unless, you know, that’s your job.

My plan for May.

So, this month, while the flowers are blooming and it’s getting beautiful outside, I’m going to be reading each book as it comes to me. No set TBR, no preplanned list. I’m just going to read whatever most excites me at the moment.

Since it is the first of May I have my first book picked out. It’s The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. This book is a beast, and if it’s the only book I get to this month, honestly I think I’m good with that. I know it won’t be the only book I read, but I’m tired of pressuring myself to read as many books as I can. I want to enjoy my reading and actually remember the books I read.

New releases I’m excited about.

There are a few books coming out this month that I’m excited about. The first being Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman and Finale by Stephanie Garber. It’s going to be hard to pick which one to read first because they both release on the same day.

Other books coming out this month are We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal; The Farm by Joanne Ramos; and Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Children of Ruin is the sequel to Children of Time and it sounds very interesting. I have never read Children of Time but I added it to my wishlist.

That’s all from me for now. What do you think about this new TBR format? I think I prefer it to just a boring list of books that I might read and that I really know nothing about. I hope this was fun and that you found some new books to add to your TBR!

Happy reading,
